Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi is currently on a four-day visit to Japan, aimed at enhancing defence cooperation between India and Japan.
From October 14 to 17, Gen Dwivedi will visit Hiroshima, where he will lay a wreath at the Hiroshima Peace Park and pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue.
The visit represents a significant advancement in strengthening defence ties between the two nations, as stated by the defence ministry.
On October 14, Gen Dwivedi will meet with Sibi George, India’s Ambassador to Japan, and discuss India-Japan relations at the Embassy of India in Tokyo.
He will engage in dialogue with Japan’s military leadership at the defence ministry in Ichigaya on October 15.
The discussions will include meetings with Gen Yoshida Yoshihide, Chief of Staff, Joint Self Defence Force, and Gen Morishita Yasunori, Chief of Staff, Japan Ground Self-Defence Force, as well as Ishikawa Takeshi, Commissioner of the Acquisition, Technology and Logistic Agency.
These talks are designed to foster deeper military cooperation between India and Japan.
Additionally, Gen Dwivedi will pay tribute at the memorial in Ichigaya and will receive a Guard of Honour from the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force.
His itinerary also involves engaging with senior officials of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force and a visit to the National Institute of Defence Studies.
On October 16, Gen Dwivedi will visit Fuji School, where he will converse with Lt. Gen Kodama Yasuyuki, Commanding General of the institution, receive a briefing, and observe a display of equipment and facilities.
Wrapping up his visit on October 17, he will return to Hiroshima for wreath-laying and tributes at the Peace Park.
This visit underscores the commitment to strengthen military cooperation and explore new collaboration avenues between India and Japan.
