SHOW LOW, Ariz. — A grand jury in Arizona has indicted a 27-year-old man in connection with the tragic shooting death of his 1-year-old daughter. Authorities report that the incident involved an AR-style rifle and occurred in the presence of the child’s mother.
Following the indictment, Adam Joseph Montoya faces two felony charges: second-degree murder and child abuse. He has entered a plea of not guilty.
The incident took place on February 3 in Show Low, a small community located approximately 180 miles northeast of Phoenix. Emergency responders transported the infant to a local medical center, where she was pronounced dead.
Montoya remains in custody on a $1 million bond. Further comments were not provided by the Navajo County Attorney’s Office or local law enforcement regarding the ongoing investigation.
