A research initiative aimed at using glass beads to reflect sunlight away from the Arctic has been terminated due to concerns that it may disrupt the food chain. The Arctic Ice Project was evaluating the use of silica beads to enhance the reflectivity of young sea ice, intending to protect it during the summer months.
This non-profit undertaking, established in 2007, had previously implemented tests with the glass beads at various Arctic locations. However, recent findings have raised significant alarm about potential ecological impacts.
