ECNETNews reports that Apple is set to launch a revamped version of the Mac mini, promising a design that truly reflects its name.
Industry insiders indicate that the redesigned Mac mini will be significantly smaller than its current iteration, potentially reaching dimensions similar to that of an Apple TV set-top box.
Currently, the Mac mini stands at 1.41 inches tall, with a width and depth of 7.75 inches. The model equipped with the M2 chip weighs 2.6 pounds, while the M2 Pro version is slightly heavier at 2.8 pounds.
In comparison, the Apple TV 4K is approximately half the size of the existing Mac mini, measuring 1.2 inches in height and 3.66 inches both in width and depth, with the Wi-Fi variant weighing a mere 0.46 pounds.
Reports suggest that the new Mac mini will adopt a more cube-like design, possibly making it taller than its predecessor. Its casing will return to aluminum, maintaining the premium feel seen in previous versions.
According to forecasts, the new Mac mini will be powered by Apple’s latest M4 processor, with a specific focus on performance enhancements. Current models are available with either M2 or M2 Pro chips.
Insiders describe the upcoming Mac mini as “essentially an iPad Pro in a small box,” indicating its advance in capabilities. There will be two versions available: one featuring the M4 chip and another expected to have the yet-to-be-announced M4 Pro chip.
Consumers can anticipate the new Mac mini becoming available for purchase later this year, likely around October.
