The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has refuted allegations made by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) regarding concerns over the exit of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his former commissioner, Ja’afaru Sani, to the SDP.
In an official statement signed by APC Chairman Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (retd) and Secretary Yahaya Baba-Pate, the party labeled the SDP’s assertions as the futile attempts of “political non-starters” who have overreached themselves.
The APC cautioned the SDP that by welcoming El-Rufai, they have “sown the seed of their own destruction,” foreseeing impending turmoil within their ranks.
“Nasir El-Rufai’s decision to depart from APC is driven by self-interest, as he seeks to reclaim political standing from those he blames for his setbacks,” the statement articulated.
The APC reiterated its dedication to democracy, the rule of law, and due process, emphasizing its commitment to a political environment conducive to the growth of all parties in Kaduna State.
The party also highlighted that numerous influential politicians have transitioned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party to the APC in recent times.
“A constructive opposition is essential for strengthening democracy and fostering development. Governor Uba Sani leads an inclusive and people-oriented administration,” the statement outlined.
The APC reported a significant influx of defectors from both the National Assembly and the Kaduna State House of Assembly, indicating unprecedented growth in its membership.
The party asserted that it has nearly saturated its position in the state and feels no apprehension about individuals seeking political relevance elsewhere.
“Instead of desperately attempting to undermine others, a period of introspection and atonement is needed for their past actions. This path will lead to peace,” the statement concluded.
The APC’s response aimed to counter the SDP’s claims that they were unsettled by El-Rufai’s defection and allegations of suppressing opposition figures, reaffirming its focus on governance amidst these political dynamics.
