Tamil Nadu BJP state president K Annamalai recently shared a compelling video asserting that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is rife with corruption. The video, which has sparked significant conversation online, features Mr. Zakir Hussain, DMK councilor of Ward 25 in Coonoor Municipal Council, allegedly attempting to steal a gold bangle during a public event.
In his social media post, Annamalai stated, “Mr. Zakir Hussain, DMK councilor of Ward 25, steals bangles under the guise of anti-Hindi. ‘Thirutta’ (thief) and DMK can never be separated!” The 30-second clip shows the councilor trying to remove the bangle from a fellow participant’s hand, only to be interrupted by another woman who prevents the attempt.
Since its posting on Tuesday evening, the video has garnered over 134,000 views and has been retweeted more than 2,000 times, igniting varied reactions. Some users echoed Annamalai’s assertion that “thief and DMK can’t be separated,” while others called for accountability from DMK leaders.
Responses also reflected on broader cultural tensions, with one commenter claiming that the Dravidian movement has appropriated elements of Hindu culture, lamenting the manipulation of Tamil heritage for political gain.
Others criticized the DMK’s integrity, alleging that it exhibits a higher level of misconduct compared to other parties, with one user highlighting how inappropriate behavior is prevalent within the party’s ranks.
Further inquiries were directed to DMK MP Kanimozhi, with users questioning how such actions could occur within her party, emphasizing the need for accountability and moral responsibility.
Annamalai continues to be a prominent voice opposing the DMK, using incidents like this to bolster his claims of corruption within the party.
