During the recent 166th convocation held at the University of Madras, Anil Kakodkar, Chancellor of the Homi Bhabha National Institute, emphasized the importance of integrating knowledge with socially beneficial work for comprehensive education.
In his address, Kakodkar pointed out that while economic growth is vital, it has also resulted in widening inequality, particularly between urban and rural areas. He stressed the need for the country to not only compete globally but also to accelerate development in rural regions to close the existing urban-rural gap.
“The empowerment of our youth, regardless of their geographical location, through education is essential to overcome these challenges,” Kakodkar stated.
To foster innovative solutions, he highlighted the importance of cooperative, solution-oriented group work among students, which can cultivate focus on their objectives.
Pradeep Yadav, Chairman of the Convener Committee for the University, outlined various state initiatives, such as the Naan Mudhalvan and Tamizh Pudhalvan schemes, designed to generate a skilled workforce. He detailed the university’s efforts to assist students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in accessing higher education.
