The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has appointed seven new bishops and four archbishops to fill recent vacancies across its dioceses and provinces. This significant development was announced in a statement by the church’s Communication Officer, following the church’s Episcopal Synod held on Monday, August 12, 2024, at St Matthew’s Anglican Church in Maitama, Abuja.
Primate Dr. Henry Ndukuba officially declared the results of the elections, expressing his congratulations to the newly elected leaders. He emphasized the importance of prayer and support from church members for the bishops and their families as they prepare for their new assignments.
The consecration of the bishops-elect along with the presentation of archbishops-elect is set to take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, during the Standing Committee Meeting hosted by Nike Diocese in Enugu State.
The newly elected bishops are:
1. Ephraim Gongdem – Jos Diocese
2. John Obinali – Okigwe Diocese
3. Sam Ike – Enugu Diocese
4. Godwin Odubena – Ijebu North Diocese
5. Bernard Hanson – Ahoada Diocese
6. Titus Alkali – Wusasa Diocese
7. Samuel Ifeyemi – Osun North Diocese
The four newly elected archbishops are:
1. Sosthenes Eze – Bishop of Enugu North Diocese, Enugu Province
2. Israel Amao – Bishop of New Bussa Diocese, Kwara Province
3. Williams Aladekugbe – Bishop of Ibadan North Diocese, Ibadan Province
4. Daniel Yisa – Bishop of Minna Diocese, Lokoja Province
