Recent ancient DNA analysis provides a groundbreaking insight into the life of a toddler who lived approximately 17,000 years ago in southern Italy, potentially succumbing to a congenital heart condition.
The skeletal remains of this child were unearthed in 1998 beneath rock slabs in the Grotta delle Mura cavern located in Apulia, southern Italy. This burial site stands out as the sole interment within the cave, which also features evidence of daily human life and occupation, highlighting its significance in understanding prehistoric communities.
