OpenAI’s official account has reportedly been hacked.
The incident involved a scam post that was shared earlier this week, announcing the fictitious $OPENAI token. The post claimed, “We’re very happy to announce $OPENAI: the gap between AI and blockchain technology. All OpenAI users are eligible to claim a piece of $OPENAI’s initial supply. Holding $OPENAI will grant access to all of our future beta programs.”
The deceptive content has since been removed, but it directed users to a phishing site that attempted to steal their crypto wallet information in exchange for the nonexistent token. This type of scam typically results in significant financial loss for the victims, as their wallets could be drained upon engaging with the malicious content.
This hacking incident is not unprecedented for OpenAI. Key employee accounts, including those of high-ranking officials, have been targeted in the past, promoting fraudulent tokens and exposing users to scams.
Earlier this year, OpenAI itself experienced a breach, which resulted in sensitive information being compromised from an employee forum.
ECNETNews will monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available.
