Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid a poignant tribute to the renowned industrialist Ratan Tata on Thursday, October 10, 2024, commemorating his immense contributions both in India and worldwide. Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away at the age of 86 in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai, on October 9, 2024.
Shah highlighted Tata’s exceptional leadership during a transformative era for the Tata Group. “Shri Ratan Tata passed away yesterday. My heartfelt tributes to him. He was a respected industrialist not just in India, but across the globe. He assumed leadership of Tata Group during a crucial time for necessary change,” remarked Shah.

Shah emphasized that Tata’s legacy will continue to inspire industry professionals. “He revolutionized the operations and various businesses of Tata Group. Under his guidance, the group made significant advancements in education and cancer treatment. Ratan Tata’s legacy will serve as a guiding light for many,” added the Home Minister.
Amit Shah is set to attend the final rites of Ratan Tata at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) lawns in South Mumbai. Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also expressed his condolences, noting that this loss is irreplaceable: “This loss can never be compensated. The country will always miss him. I pay my tributes to him.” The mortal remains of Ratan Tata, draped in the national flag, have been placed at the NCPA lawns for the public to pay their last respects.
According to a statement from Tata Trust, Ratan Tata’s mortal remains will embark on their final journey at 4 pm today. Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, he was the Chairman of Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, two of India’s largest private philanthropic organizations. Tata held the position of Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company for the Tata Group, from 1991 until his retirement in 2012, after which he became Chairman Emeritus. He received the Padma Vibhushan, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor, in 2008.
