Mysuru’s Tiger Adventure Foundation has been a pioneer in promoting adventure tourism by organizing trekking expeditions in the majestic Himalayan mountains. In 2018, they successfully held an all-women trekking expedition to Baradasar Pass in Uttarakhand, attracting great interest and participation.
The expedition, titled ‘Nari Shakti,’ brought together 27 women who trekked the challenging terrains of Uttarkashi district, reaching an altitude of 15,100 feet at Baradasar Pass over a thrilling 10-day journey. According to D.S.D. Solanki from the Foundation, the group comprised diverse ages, with participants ranging from as young as 15 to 66 years old, coming from Mysuru and nearby regions including Madikeri, Hassan, Kanakapura, and Bengaluru.
The commitment to empowering women through adventure is evident, as Solanki noted, “Every time we organize a trekking expedition, the response is more from women than men. In fact, women consistently make up over 60 percent of our participants.” The success of these expeditions highlights the growing interest among women in adventure activities, further promoting gender equality in outdoor sports.
