The iconic tagline from the original 1979 Alien film declared that “in space, no one can hear you scream,” but it overlooked a critical detail: Xenomorphs possess an acute sense of hearing, allowing them to detect nearly every sound in a spaceship or colony. This ability is showcased in a new preview clip from the highly anticipated installment, Alien: Romulus.
In this gripping clip, Isabela Merced stars as Kay, a member of a group of young scavengers who embark on a perilous mission to collect materials from abandoned ships. The scene intensifies as Kay, unarmed and vulnerable, attempts to evade a lurking Xenomorph. The alien, keenly listening for any sound, adds to the tension as Kay tries to remain silent in her desperate bid for survival, evoking memories of similar suspenseful moments in cinematic history.
Despite Kay’s best efforts to stay undetected, she is alarmingly caught off guard when a Xenomorph suddenly emerges, dragging away two bodies. The origins of these bodies—whether they belong to Kay’s crew or to previous inhabitants of the now-infested ship—remain a chilling mystery.
The film also stars Cailee Spaeny as Rain Carradine, alongside David Jonsson as Andy, Archie Renaux as Tyler, Spike Fearn as Bjorn, and Aileen Wu as Navarro. Directed by Fede Álvarez, known for his work on films like Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead, Alien: Romulus promises to deliver spine-tingling thrills. The film is slated for release in theaters on August 16.
