Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has announced a substantial increase in the minimum wage for public civil servants, raising it to N80,000. This significant change aims to enhance the welfare of state employees.
To facilitate the successful implementation of this new wage policy, Governor Eno has established an Implementation Committee, tasked with presenting its report within one month. The committee will be chaired by Effiong Essien, the Head of the Civil Service.
In a statement released by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, the governor emphasized the state’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of public servants. He stated, “The State Government will pay a new minimum wage of N80,000 for all state government employees.”
The Implementation Committee features a diverse group, including heads of various parastatals and ministries, such as the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission and the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission. Other notable members include the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Establishments, and representatives from key labor unions within the state.
This move is expected to bolster employee morale and improve public service delivery in Akwa Ibom State.
