A significant development has emerged regarding Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, who is currently under investigation for suspected terrorism financing and related offenses. A former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services, Dennis Amachree, has emphasized that Ajaero should not be allowed to leave Nigeria during this investigation.
Ajaero was apprehended by the Department of State Services on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as he attempted to travel to the United Kingdom for official matters. He remained in custody throughout the day before being released late Monday night.
During an appearance on a political program, Amachree stated, “There is an ongoing investigation. He (Ajaero) cannot leave the country.” He further asserted, “Let him remain in the country while investigations continue.” Amachree highlighted the seriousness of the accusations, noting that Ajaero cannot depart as the investigation into terrorism financing proceeds.
Amachree pointed out that Ajaero has connections to Andrew Wynne, a person suspected of financing terrorism and reportedly residing in London. He conveyed concerns that Ajaero might have fled the country similar to other individuals who have evaded justice if he had been allowed to travel.
“Joe Ajaero has a terrorism case to answer, and he is not above the law,” Amachree concluded. The implications of this situation continue to evolve, drawing attention to the importance of accountability in leadership roles.
