Airports of Thailand Ground Aviation Services (AOTGA) has announced the opening of its new Multimodal Transportation Centre at Suvarnabhumi Airport, aimed at positioning Thailand as a regional logistics hub. This breakthrough facility is designed to streamline the transportation of goods among key Southeast Asian countries, known as CLMV—Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
The centre integrates various transportation modes, including land, rail, sea, and air, coupled with efficient customs clearance processes at a single point. AOTGA President remarked that the new facility will significantly reduce logistical costs and bolster the government’s initiative to amplify Thailand’s status as a leading aviation hub in the region.
AOTGA anticipates that the services provided by the centre will generate an impressive 80 million baht in revenue for fiscal 2025, with projected cargo volumes reaching between 40,000 to 50,000 tonnes. The official inauguration ceremony was attended by AOTGA executives and officials from the Customs Department, highlighting the collaborative effort behind this strategic venture.
To date, over ten logistics and goods transportation companies have already begun utilizing the services available at the centre, with expectations of continued growth, particularly as the e-commerce sector expands.
Looking ahead, the President forecasts a revenue and cargo volume increase of 10-15% annually. AOTGA, alongside Airports of Thailand and the Customs Department, has invested 150 million baht into this project, which spans an impressive 4,872 square metres.
The facility aims to facilitate seamless connections between all transport modes while offering centralized cargo handling, storage, and a comprehensive customs clearance system. The air cargo sector will receive special focus due to Thailand’s strategic advantage in handling e-commerce goods emerging from the CLMV region.
AOTGA aims to achieve break-even within the next 7-8 years. Moreover, total revenue, which includes earnings from additional ground services like passenger luggage management, is expected to reach 3.8-3.9 billion baht in fiscal 2025, reflecting a rise from 3.4 billion baht in fiscal 2024, boosted by the growth in airport cleaning services and operations at Phuket and Don Mueang airports.
