Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the Acting First Lady following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno. The announcement was made during a condolence visit by notable dignitaries in Uyo.
Governor Eno emphasized that Helen will take on the responsibilities of the First Lady, ensuring the continuation of initiatives previously led by her mother, particularly the impactful Golden Initiative For All. “To maintain the Office of the First Lady and carry forward my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office. She will work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare,” the governor stated.
In a heartfelt tribute, the governor reflected on his late wife’s unwavering support and dedication, underscoring the irreplaceable nature of her absence and his commitment to upholding her legacy. He assured the citizens of Akwa Ibom that the programs initiated by his late wife will proceed, with Helen leading the efforts to honor her mother’s vision.
Recalling their long journey together, the governor expressed deep sentiment, stating, “I married her when she was 19 and I was 22. She was truly a gift from God, and her passing is an irreplaceable loss for me.”
During the visit, Mrs. Tinubu commended the governor’s decision, expressing confidence in Obareki’s capability to lead and preserve her mother’s legacy. She encouraged the new Acting First Lady, reassuring her of the support from her mother’s colleagues and the community.
In response to rumors concerning his personal life, Governor Eno humorously dismissed speculations about remarrying, stating, “I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon. I don’t have the money to pay another bride price.”
