Adding AI-generated video to your short-form content is about to become more accessible. YouTube has unveiled an integration of Veo 2 — the latest video generation tool by Google DeepMind — within its Shorts platform, empowering users to create and incorporate AI-generated clips seamlessly into their videos.
This innovative feature will enhance the existing Dream Screen in Shorts, which already allows users to incorporate AI-generated backgrounds into their posts.
YouTube emphasized the simplicity of the process, stating, “Need a specific scene but don’t have the right footage? Want to turn your imagination into reality and tell a unique story? Just use a text prompt to generate a video clip that complements your narrative or craft an entirely new content experience. It’s that easy!”
YouTube turns 20 years old. Did you know it was originally a dating website?
YouTube also highlighted that Veo 2 is designed to better interpret real-world physics and human movement, expected to yield more precise and lifelike results. Users will gain the ability to create AI videos that align with specific “styles, lenses, or cinematic effects.”
As an example, YouTube showcased how creators might utilize the tool — demonstrating a playful scenario where a dog transforms into a giant creature.
While the ease of creating AI-generated video can be exciting, it also raises concerns. YouTube has addressed this by stating that all AI-generated content will feature SynthID watermarks and clear labeling, aiming to minimize viewer confusion.
Currently, this new AI feature is available to users in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
