Dar es Salaam – Africa Embraces Human-Centered AI Innovation
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform economies worldwide, Africa is positioning itself to spearhead a human-centered approach to innovation.
Former chief business officer at Google’s X, Mo Gawdat, emphasized that AI should prioritize the greater good, driving growth and fostering global change. His statements have called for a responsible AI framework, urging Africa to play a leading role in the worldwide momentum towards technologies that enhance humanity.
Gawdat remarked, “We need the world to fully understand the possibilities of AI before it is too late. This is a pivotal moment for Africa, as we stand at a point of advantage.” He highlighted the continent’s responsibility to leverage AI strategically and generate net benefits for its people.
Responsible AI transcends mere technology; it focuses on creating a future where innovation advances individual rights and promotes sustainable development.
These insights were shared following the Future Ready Summit in Dar es Salaam, where a diverse group of technologists, policymakers, and youth convened to discuss AI’s capacity to drive inclusive and sustainable development across Africa and beyond.
Phillip Besiimire, Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania, reinforced the company’s dedication to human-centered innovation. “AI is not a one-size-fits-all solution but a powerful enabler when tailored to local realities. Through strategic infrastructure investments and partnerships, Vodacom is helping Tanzania navigate traditional development challenges,” he stated.
In line with this vision, advancements in AI-supported financial inclusion, smart agriculture, and resilient connectivity are poised to create a future where technology fosters equitable growth, empowering Tanzanians to succeed in a digital economy.
