Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially announced an increase in the monthly minimum wage to N70,000 for state and local government employees.
During a recent meeting with representatives of organized labor, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, confirmed this significant development.
Fashe indicated that state workers will begin receiving the new wage this month, while local government employees will see the adjustment starting next month. He clarified that the implementation will follow the same adjustment framework as the previous N32,000 minimum wage established in 2019, awaiting updated guidelines from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission.
Fashe emphasized, “The current minimum wage of N32,000 for Adamawa State workers will serve as the basis for the percentage calculations used to apply the new minimum wage.”
Governor Fintiri’s decision to endorse the N70,000 minimum wage even before receiving new parameters from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission highlights his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of workers in the state.
