With just weeks remaining until the highly anticipated release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 25, Activision is intensifying its marketing efforts. A new campaign featuring the character known as The Replacer, portrayed by Peter Stormare, kicked off on September 29. The concept behind these advertisements is that The Replacer steps in for those who take time off work to immerse themselves in Call of Duty.
The Replacer first appeared in 2013 and has been a familiar face in Activision’s Black Ops promotional campaigns ever since. The initial commercial for Black Ops 6, featuring this iconic character, premiered during Sunday’s NFL game lineup.
This is merely the beginning, as Activision has announced plans to release nearly 30 commercials leading up to the game’s launch. The company hinted at featuring "some notable names" to be replaced during this advertising blitz but withheld further details.
The recent advertisement showcases The Replacer in various outrageous scenarios—substituting for a firefighter rescuing a cat, a rideshare driver, and even a father during a family dinner, where he navigates a spicy conversation with the mother. Interestingly, even the Pope is depicted as playing Call of Duty, as The Replacer temporarily takes over his duties.
Black Ops 6 is set to debut on October 25. In a significant shift from previous releases, the game will not offer early access to its campaign. It will, however, be available on Game Pass at launch, but only for the premium tiers of the service.
