Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray has condemned Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his inability to control escalating violence in Nagpur, which he referred to as Fadnavis’ “home city.” Thackeray warned that the BJP’s actions could turn Maharashtra into another Manipur, where ongoing violence has negatively impacted investments and tourism. He criticized the government for not addressing real issues and suggested that the Prime Minister could have easily resolved tensions around Aurangzeb’s tomb by contacting the Archaeological Survey of India to remove it.
Thackeray expressed concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, questioning the apparent inaction from the Chief Minister’s Office amid rising unrest in Nagpur. “The BJP controls both the Centre and the state. If they wanted to resolve this, they could easily take action,” he said, implying that the government was using distractions to shift focus away from significant problems affecting farmers, women, and youth.
Meanwhile, in response to the violence that erupted in Nagpur following protests from right-wing groups demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb, Chief Minister Fadnavis claimed the violence seemed to be a “well-planned attack.” He mentioned that rumors concerning incendiary religious content fueled the chaos.
Authorities in Nagpur have imposed a ban on large gatherings as tensions rise, with reports of vehicles being set ablaze and multiple injuries, including to police personnel, resulting from violent confrontations. The state continues to grapple with safety concerns amid these tumultuous events.
