Doom Anthology Now Available Across Multiple Platforms
Doom Anthology has officially launched, making its debut on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Priced at $80, this comprehensive collection includes six classic Doom titles, a collectible replica of the iconic BFG, and a stylish steelbook case. Originally announced in August, the compilation quickly sold out during preorders but is now accessible to all gamers on launch day.
In contrast, another major compilation, the Fallout Special Anthology Edition, faced issues during its release in February. This bundle also included exclusive merchandise and quickly ran out of stock, leading to availability only through resellers since its launch.
It’s important to note that while fans will receive a steelbook case with Doom Anthology, the collection itself is purely digital. A voucher for redemption on Steam, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, or Nintendo Switch eShop is provided instead of physical game discs.
Doom Anthology Highlights – $80
For dedicated followers of the franchise, the BFG replica included in this anthology is a significant highlight. The meticulously crafted collectible, measuring five inches, features LED lights and comes with a display stand, showcasing the beloved weapon from the series. However, some fans may be disappointed that the steelbook case lacks a physical disc.
The Doom Anthology comprises the following titles:
- Doom (1993)
- Doom II
- Doom 64
- Doom 3
- Doom (2016)
- Doom Eternal Deluxe Edition
This digital-only release ensures that the PlayStation version is compatible with PS5 and PS4, while the Xbox version supports both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Additionally, even with Microsoft’s acquisition of Zenimax Media, the PC version is linked to a Steam key rather than the Microsoft Store.
All six games included in the anthology are also part of an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription for Xbox and PC users. Current promotions may offer discounted prepaid codes for the membership, making it an appealing option for fans.
Doom Anthology presents an excellent opportunity to experience the foundational entries of the franchise on contemporary consoles. With the highly anticipated release of Doom: The Dark Ages, a prequel to the 2016 reboot, slated for 2025, now is the perfect time to dive back into this classic series.
Furthermore, the remastered versions of Doom (1993) and Doom II were simultaneously released, allowing existing owners to upgrade for free. The enhanced editions support 4K resolution at 120fps on the latest consoles and include a plethora of fresh content, including a new campaign episode for Doom II, along with numerous multiplayer maps. Cross-play features are now available for deathmatches and missions, significantly enhancing player experience.
Excitingly, a new physical edition of the 1995 Super Nintendo port of the original Doom is also on the horizon, set to launch in 2025 in both standard and collector’s formats. Each purchase will come with a poster and an instruction booklet, providing collectors and fans alike with a tangible piece of gaming history.
