In a significant operation, security forces eliminated five Naxalites in an encounter in Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra, on October 21, 2024. This incident marks a critical moment as the region gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The encounter was spearheaded by the C-60 specialized combat unit of the Gadchiroli police and occurred within a forest in the Bhamragadh taluka. Intelligence indicated that a group of Naxalites had convened in the area along the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, reportedly planning an attack ahead of the elections scheduled for November 20.
According to an official statement from the Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police, 22 teams of C-60 commandos and two squads from the CRPF, under the guidance of senior officers, conducted the anti-Naxal operation. Upon arrival, the security personnel were met with heavy gunfire from the Naxalites. In the fierce exchange of fire that ensued, five Maoists were neutralized.
This encounter highlights ongoing efforts to maintain security and stability in the region as authorities work to combat Naxalite violence.
