COACHELLA, Calif. — A 49-year-old man from Nevada was arrested at a security checkpoint on Saturday night near a rally for former President Donald Trump. The individual was detained after deputies discovered a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and ammunition in his vehicle, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect was driving a black SUV when he was stopped by law enforcement officers assigned to monitor the rally in Coachella, located east of Los Angeles. Authorities have charged him with possessing a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine.
Officials stated that this incident did not affect the safety of former President Trump or other attendees at the event.
Attendees, including media members and VIP ticket holders, underwent a detailed security screening process managed by state and local law enforcement before entering the event. General ticket holders were directed to a separate location about three miles away, where they were transported to the rally site via bus.
A news conference is scheduled for later today, where Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco will provide further details regarding the arrest.
