PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In her first fundraising event as the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris identified herself as the underdog in the race but expressed confidence that she and the Democratic Party would prevail in the upcoming election.
“We have a challenging fight ahead of us, and we are the underdogs in this race,” she declared at the Colonial Theatre. “However, this campaign is powered by the people, and we are gaining momentum.”
Harris emphasized the crucial choice facing voters: a vision for the future versus a desire to reverse progress. “Let us make no mistake. This campaign is not merely about us versus Donald Trump,” she noted. “As we strive to advance our nation, Trump aims to pull our country backward.”
The Vice President reiterated her commitment to the theme of freedom—freedom to vote, freedom from gun violence, and reproductive autonomy. She accused Trump of threatening women’s fundamental rights and suggested that his intentions extend further.
“Do we want to live in a country defined by freedom, compassion, and rule of law, or one plagued by chaos, fear, and hatred?” Harris questioned.
Moreover, she addressed Trump’s recent attacks and those of his running mate, Sen. JD Vance. “You might have noticed that Donald Trump has resorted to some outrageous falsehoods about my record, and some of what he and his partner are saying is frankly just bizarre,” she remarked, eliciting laughter from her audience.
According to her campaign, Harris was slated to raise over $1.4 million during this initial fundraiser, which attracted approximately 800 attendees.
