Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to renowned socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary, commemorated on October 11, 2024. In a heartfelt message, Modi highlighted Narayan’s lifelong commitment to societal transformation and emphasized that his ideals continue to inspire generations.
Additionally, Modi honored Nanaji Deshmukh, a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, also on his birth anniversary. The Prime Minister praised Deshmukh’s dedication to empowering rural communities, especially marginalized sections, emphasizing that his contributions will not be forgotten.
Jayaprakash Narayan, affectionately known as JP, was a key figure in the anti-Emergency movement, galvanizing public support against what he deemed corrupt and oppressive governance during Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s tenure in the 1970s. His efforts were pivotal in uniting opposition parties and leading to a significant electoral defeat for Congress in the post-Emergency elections of 1977.
Nanaji Deshmukh, associated with the RSS, played an instrumental role in the anti-Emergency movement and later transitioned from politics to social activism, focusing on enhancing the living conditions of villagers in Bundelkhand.
Both Narayan and Deshmukh have been honored with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, recognizing their immense contributions to the nation.
