Former President Barack Obama delivered a powerful message to Black men in Pittsburgh on Thursday, urging them to support Vice President Harris and engage in the upcoming election.
During a surprise visit to a campaign field office, Obama emphasized the critical need for voter turnout ahead of a closely contested race between Harris and former President Donald Trump, as recent polls indicate a tight race.
“Recent reports show that Trump has gained traction among Black male voters,” Obama remarked. “I want to speak some truths about this shift.”
He noted that enthusiasm for Harris appears to be lacking, particularly among Black male voters. “We have not yet seen the same energy and turnout that characterized my campaigns,” he said.
Obama challenged those contemplating not voting or supporting Trump, questioning their motivations. “If you’re considering sitting this one out, I have to wonder if it’s because of the idea of having a woman as president.”
He acknowledged the ongoing support that women provide in communities, stating, “When we get in trouble, it’s the women in our lives who are out there marching and protesting for justice.”
In addressing undecided voters, Obama made a compelling case for choosing Harris over Trump, highlighting her deep understanding of the challenges faced by Black communities. “Harris represents a dedication to policies that uplift our neighborhoods, like affordable housing and better healthcare,” he stated. “In contrast, Trump has consistently demonstrated a lack of regard for our community’s needs.”
