ECNETNews has learned that a new series inspired by The Office is set to debut, with four additional cast members recently confirmed.
In January 2024, the development of this follow-up series was revealed, described not as a reboot or spin-off, but as a fresh mockumentary set in the same universe, featuring an entirely new cast.
The title of the series is rumored to be The Paper, though official confirmation is still pending.
Newly announced cast members include Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key, and Eric Rahill, who will portray undisclosed characters. Notably, Ikumelo, Edelman, and Rahill are also contributing as writers for the series.
Additionally, the cast features Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, and Ramona Young.
What else do we know about the new series inspired by The Office?
The series synopsis highlights “the documentary crew that captured the essence of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch as they search for a new subject, discovering a struggling historic Midwestern newspaper and its publisher attempting to revive it with the help of volunteer reporters.”
Greg Daniels co-created the series alongside Michael Koman, both of whom serve as executive producers, joined by Ricky Gervais and Stephan Merchant, the creators of the original British version of The Office. Additional executive producers include Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas, with production by Universal Television.
“Over a decade has passed since the final episode of The Office aired, yet the beloved series continues to thrive and attract new fans on streaming platforms,” a spokesperson stated. “In collaboration with Universal Television and led by creatives Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series introduces a fresh cast and setting—primed for comedic storytelling in a daily newspaper environment.”
The premiere date for this exciting new series has yet to be announced.
