In 2018, God of War captivated gamers with the introduction of Atreus, Kratos’s son, forging a memorable father-son dynamic. However, players found Atreus’s constant chatter somewhat distracting. This trend persisted in the highly anticipated 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarok. Now, a new mod for the recently launched PC port offers a solution by keeping Atreus and other companions from interrupting gameplay, particularly during puzzles.
The mod, titled “Please Shut Up,” addresses concerns raised by many players. It expands on an existing option provided by Sony to reduce hint frequency during puzzles but goes further by eliminating over 1,500 lines of dialogue from the game. This drastic step was taken in response to player feedback about Atreus frequently reminding them of basic actions, which some found patronizing.
The creator of the mod expressed, “Tired of companions telling you things you already know? Tired of the game treating you like a child if you don’t instantly solve every puzzle? This mod removes over 1,500 pointless voice lines from the game.”
Currently, this mod is exclusively available for PC gamers, as those on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 still await an update from Sony that might include features to reduce hint frequency. For now, PC players can enjoy a quieter experience and focus more intently on the gameplay without Atreus’s interruptions.
