An explosion, believed to have been caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), has rocked the bustling Buni Yadi market in the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Friday, resulting in injuries to a local girl. Her identity and current condition remain undisclosed.
Captain Muhammad Shehu, the spokesman for the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the event. He revealed that another IED was located within the market and was successfully defused by military personnel. The victim of the explosion is currently receiving treatment at a healthcare facility in Buni Yadi.
Captain Shehu emphasized that the incident stemmed from a planted explosive device, clarifying that it was not due to a suicide bombing. Buni Yadi, situated 54 kilometers from the state capital, Damaturu, has experienced significant challenges in the past, particularly during a two-year period under Boko Haram control.
