ECNETNews is excited to report that the Mercury Prize has unveiled its 2024 nominations. This prestigious award recognizes the best British or Irish album of the year, and this year’s nominees include notable artists such as Charli XCX, Beth Gibbons, Nia Archives, and Ghetts, among others. The complete shortlist is detailed below. The winner will be revealed in September, marking the first time in the award’s 32-year history that a public ceremony will not take place.
In response to her nomination, Charli XCX expressed her gratitude, saying, “brat has been shortlisted for the mercury prize and i really am so honored. its so nice to see this body of work get so much love, it truly means the world and watching it take on a life of its own has just been so wild and quite fucking crazy.”
The judging panel for this year, led by BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music’s Jeff Smith, features an impressive lineup including Jamie Cullum, Mistajam, and Jamz Supernova, alongside industry journalists. Last year’s winner, Ezra Collective, made history as the first jazz artist to take home the award.
