A depression is poised to strengthen into a tropical storm today, predicted to make landfall in Vietnam and trigger heavy rainfall across Thailand until Monday, as reported by the Meteorological Department.
The depression, with wind speeds reaching 55 kilometers per hour at its center, was located approximately 300 km northeast of Quang Tri province in Vietnam at 4 AM on Thursday.
Currently moving west at around 20 km per hour, the storm is expected to reach central Vietnam early Friday morning before gradually losing strength.
The combination of the storm and a strong monsoon trough is forecasted to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the northern, northeastern, central, and southern regions from Thursday through Monday, leading to potential flash floods and runoff.
