The filming of the highly anticipated Watch Dogs movie, inspired by the popular video game series, has officially concluded, as confirmed by Ubisoft and New Regency. To mark this milestone, the companies shared an image of director Mathieu Turi on set.
Originally announced in 2013, the film faced several delays, which is common in the film industry. However, production finally commenced in early July, resulting in a relatively swift shooting schedule.
In this cinematic adaptation, Tom Blyth, known for his role in the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, takes on a leading role, alongside Sophia Wilde from the horror film Talk to Me.
Director Turi is not stopping with Watch Dogs, as he is also in the process of developing a television series based on the acclaimed Plague Tale video games, further showcasing his commitment to transforming video games into engaging screen stories.
The Watch Dogs film was first announced a year before the gaming franchise launched in 2014. Initially set to be produced by Sony Pictures, the film has been long awaited, especially considering the success of the original game, along with its sequels, Watch Dogs 2 and Watch Dogs Legion, which explored iconic cities like Chicago, San Francisco, and London. Despite this progress, details regarding the movie’s plot and setting remain under wraps.
In addition to Watch Dogs, fans are still waiting for updates on other Ubisoft movie adaptations, including Splinter Cell and The Division. Notably, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed, released in 2016, remains one of the company’s most successful adaptations, grossing over $240 million worldwide.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Watch Dogs film and other exciting projects from Ubisoft.
