ECNETNews reports significant changes to the Globo television network’s hit soap opera, “Mania de Você,” which premiered on Monday, October 9. The modifications aim to accelerate the storyline’s progression into its crucial final phase, originally anticipated to commence at the end of the third week.
The most notable change includes the rescheduling of the villain Molina’s (Rodrigo Lombardi) death scene. Initially set to air on Friday, October 20, this pivotal moment will now take place on Thursday, October 19, coinciding with a day when viewership is expected to peak in São Paulo, Brazil’s primary television market.
This information has been affirmed in press releases distributed by the network. Additional plot modifications have been unveiled, intending for the second and definitive phase of the series to debut on October 22.
Consequently, the original episodes 7, 8, and 9 will be condensed into a single airing, scheduled for Monday, October 16. The scene featuring Isis (Mariana Ximenes) gifting her jewelry to Guga (Allan Souza Lima), initially planned for Tuesday, October 17, will now be broadcast at the week’s start.
Such editorial adjustments to prime-time soap operas for audience engagement are not unprecedented at Globo. In 2017, the series “O Outro Lado do Paraíso,” crafted by Walcyr Carrasco, was cut by 10 days to hasten the plot transition, which subsequently resulted in soaring viewership ratings, surpassing an average of 50 points.
As for “Mania de Você,” it has struggled to find its footing, averaging 23 points in its first four episodes in São Paulo—the lowest debut for a prime-time soap since “Um Lugar ao Sol” in 2021. Each point translates to approximately 191,000 viewers.
Globo remains optimistic that Luma’s (Agatha Moreira) impending revenge against Viola (Gabz) alongside the intrigue surrounding Molina’s demise will recapture audience interest in the upcoming episodes.
