ECNETNews, New York, NY, Fri. September 13, 2024: Celebrated Caribbean jazz artist Marie-Claire Giraud has won the Jazz category at the esteemed 2024 InterContinental Music Awards (ICMA).
These prestigious awards highlight exceptional musical talent across various genres, recognizing outstanding artists from around the globe.
Marie-Claire, who hails from Dominica and was raised in the Bronx, shared her joy at this significant recognition: “Winning ‘Best of America Jazz’ for my original track Chasin’ Rainbows is incredible as it allows my message of positivity and perseverance to reach a wider audience,” she stated.
The 2024 ICMA received an impressive array of submissions from over 55 countries, showcasing the vast diversity of global musical talent. A total of 116 artists were honored across genres such as Flamenco, Reggae, New Age, Asian Pop, and Jazz, with entries categorized by geographic regions to highlight talent from Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East.
“This event celebrated not just individual melodies, but a harmonious global symphony of artists sharing their unique voices and stories,” remarked a representative of ICMA.
Judging for the awards comprised top industry professionals from music, entertainment, film, and media. They assessed submissions based on originality, composition, production quality, and overall thematic message. Winners, including Marie-Claire, will benefit from scholarships, mentoring sessions, promotional support, and official ICMA awards.
Currently, Marie-Claire is in the studio creating her upcoming jazz album Caravan, slated for release in late October 2024. A highly regarded performer, she frequently collaborates with notable pianists Jon Davis and Matt Baker at the Scarlet Jazz Lounge in New York City. Her previous work includes the acclaimed one-woman show The Great American Songbook at the Movies and performances at Maui’s Jazz Maui Sunset Jazz Series.
Marie-Claire has also performed at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Barclays Center, and Madison Square Garden, and has graced international stages at renowned events like the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival and the Cartagena Jazz Festival.
With numerous accolades to her name, including the NYC Caribbean Heritage Award and recognition from the NAACP for her contributions to the community, Marie-Claire continues to empower and inspire through her music.
