In a significant escalation of hostilities, over 140 Ukrainian drones targeted multiple Russian regions overnight, including Moscow and its suburbs, according to Russian officials. This marks one of the most extensive Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory during the ongoing conflict.
The town of Ramenskoye, located just outside Moscow, was hit by drones that struck two multistory residential buildings, igniting fires and resulting in the tragic death of one woman, while injuring three others. Emergency services reported the evacuation of five nearby residential buildings due to debris from the drones, as stated by Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov.
In response to the attack, authorities temporarily closed three airports near Moscow — Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky. This disruption led to the diversion of 48 flights to other airports, as reported by Russia’s civil aviation authority.
In Moscow itself, drone remnants fell on a private home, although no injuries were reported, as per Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. He indicated that over a dozen drones were intercepted and shot down by air defenses before reaching the city.
Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed that its forces “intercepted and destroyed” a total of 144 Ukrainian drones across nine regions, including locations on the Ukrainian border and deeper within Russia.
This incident follows another substantial drone attack earlier in September, where the Russian military reported intercepting 158 Ukrainian drones, marking a series of aggressive actions in the ongoing conflict.
