Gabriela Medeiros, a standout performer from “Renascer,” shared insightful reflections during her recent interview, revealing that she has yet to experience a relationship where affection is the core sentiment.
The 23-year-old actress, identifying as a transgender woman, candidly discussed the objectification of her body and being subjected to various fetishes.
“It feels like I only exist at night. I hope to someday be the sun for someone,” she expressed.
During the interview, Gabriela also spoke about learning the value of embracing, thanks to her co-star Rodrigo Simas, with whom she worked on “Renascer.” She shared, “Before joining the soap opera, I had never truly understood what a hug was. I learned about it in preparation for my role.”
Taking on the role of Buba proved to be an emotionally charged experience for Gabriela, who would sometimes wake up in tears contemplating her character’s intense scenes.
The actress conveyed, “The experience of embodying this character filled me with its complexities, and then I had to find a way to release it all. I’m currently navigating the grief that comes after stepping away from the role.”
Gabriela also opened up about facing silence and neglect from her family throughout her gender transition, highlighting the invaluable support from her friends. She praised the care she received at a local health unit in São Paulo, which operates under Brazil’s public health system.
Raised by her grandmother after her teenage parents, Gabriela noted that her grandmother struggled to comprehend her transition.
Prior to “Renascer,” Gabriela caught the eye of industry professionals in “Vicky e a Musa” after a chance performance at a party, where she impressed with a rendition of a Maysa song.
Gabriela’s early life was enriched by music, poetry, and art, which she embraced as a shy child often finding solace in solitude.
An influential school librarian introduced her to the book “A Hora da Estrela” by Clarice Lispector, a transformative moment that opened the doors to the arts for her.
Though Gabriela disclosed she doesn’t have any upcoming projects post-novela, her recent interview marks yet another milestone in her flourishing career, receiving praise from notable figures in the media.
