The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced a new partnership with Global Olabod Resources Limited to enhance security measures throughout the state, particularly aimed at protecting farmers in forest reserves. This initiative seeks to address the growing concerns of farmers who have faced threats and violence on their lands.
As part of this collaboration, Global Olabod Resources will work closely with the state security network agency, Amotekun Corps, along with other law enforcement entities, to eliminate criminal activities in these vital agricultural areas. During a security awareness tour in the Idanre Local Government Area, the security firm’s management highlighted the urgent need for improved safety measures to support local farmers and ensure food security.
Mr. Eniola Ogunbodede, the firm’s Chairman, emphasized that the state government recognizes the pressing challenge posed by attacks on farmers. This initiative is not only a response to farmer safety but a commitment to enhancing food production within the state. Mr. Ogunbodede, represented by Operations Manager Mr. Debo Ariyo, stated, “The governor’s goal is to guarantee the availability of food in the state by ensuring that farmers can safely tend to their crops.”
He further explained that this effort aims to instill confidence in farmers, allowing them to cultivate their lands without fear. The security team has commenced visits to key forest reserves, including Idanre Forest Reserve, Akure/Ofosu Forest Reserve, and Ala Government Forest Reserve, with plans to extend this outreach across other regions.
Farmers are encouraged to register with the authorities to participate in these protective measures. The Chairman of the Farmers’ Association commended the government’s proactive stance in ascertaining farm safety through this partnership.
Additionally, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Security, Mr. Gbenga Atiba, confirmed that the firm will also assist in cataloging farmers residing in the forest. “By collaborating with Amotekun and other security bodies, we aim to eradicate threats against farmers, ensuring they can work confidently. This will ultimately lead to increased agricultural productivity,” he stated.
