In a remarkable achievement, Thai athletes secured bronze medals in the men’s 4x100m relay at the World Athletics U20 Championships held in Lima.
The final took place early Sunday morning (Thailand time) with a team comprised of Wirayut Daenkhanob, Sarawut Nuansi, Chutithat Pruksorranan, and Puripol Boonson representing Thailand.
The Thai relay team crossed the finish line in 39.39 seconds, clinching third place. Jamaica secured the gold medal with a time of 39.18 seconds, while the United Kingdom earned silver at 39.20 seconds.
Puripol Boonson made headlines as he anchored the relay team, helping to achieve a national U20 record. “We did our best despite the cold weather… I am proud of my teammates for this accomplishment,” said Puripol.
Wirayut, 17, hails from Phatthalung province and is a student at Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya’s College. Sarawut, also 17, is from Surat Thani and studies at Mahavajiravudh Cangwatsongkhla School. Chutithat, who is 17, comes from Chon Buri and attends Piboonbumpen Demonstration School of Burapha University.
Puripol, the eldest at 18, graduated from Assumption Samutprakarn School and is set to continue his education in the United States. He previously made history as the first Thai sprinter to win a medal at this event, securing silver in the 100-meter final. Last month, he reached the semi-finals in the men’s 100m during the Olympics held in Paris.
Thai athletes are expected to return to the country on Tuesday at 12:45 PM.
