Lyft has announced the introduction of a new feature aimed at enhancing inclusivity for pet owners across the United States. Coinciding with National Dog Day, the company unveiled “Pet Rides,” allowing riders to bring their pets along for their journeys. An additional fee of $4 will be charged, which goes directly to the driver.
This initiative is designed to alleviate the stress of traveling with pets by ensuring that riders are paired with drivers who are comfortable accommodating animals in their vehicles. Whether heading to the vet or enjoying a day at the park, pet owners can now travel hassle-free with their furry companions.
How to Use Lyft Pet Rides
To book a Lyft Pet Ride, users simply select the option within the Lyft app. This service currently allows for one cat or dog per ride, with pets required to be in a carrier, on a blanket, or at the owner’s feet. While drivers have the option to decline participation, they are mandated to accommodate service animals.
With the launch of Pet Rides, Lyft is aligning itself with competitors who have offered similar features for some time. The company is also partnering with animal shelters and rescue organizations to promote pet adoption through special initiatives as part of this rollout.
