Former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has extended a message of encouragement to her niece, the newly appointed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. In a public statement, Yingluck congratulated Ms. Paetongtarn on her significant role as Thailand’s second female prime minister.
Yingluck acknowledged the weight of the responsibilities ahead, emphasizing the need for resilience amid the country’s ongoing economic challenges. She expressed confidence in her niece’s ability to navigate these difficulties, stating, “I believe you will tackle all obstacles that come your way and emerge successful.”
In her message, Yingluck advised Ms. Paetongtarn to remain compassionate and attentive to the thoughts and feelings of those affected by her leadership.
Ms. Paetongtarn follows in the footsteps of her aunt, Yingluck, who previously served as Thailand’s first female prime minister. Yingluck’s tenure was abruptly concluded in 2017 due to judicial actions related to her government’s rice-pledging scheme, leading to her conviction and subsequent exile.
In recent statements, Thaksin Shinawatra, Yingluck’s brother, expressed hopes of reuniting with her in Thailand soon.
