The highly anticipated Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are set to take place from August 28 to September 8, showcasing approximately 4,400 athletes from around the globe competing across 22 sports. Mongolia is proud to field a team of 12 athletes who will compete in six disciplines: judo, archery, taekwondo, powerlifting, athletics, and swimming.
Since their inception in 1988, the Paralympic Games have seen Mongolia actively participate since 2000. D. Baatarjav, a state-honored athlete, made history by winning the nation’s first Paralympic medal in 2008, a feat that paved the way for further successes by athletes E. Sodnompiljee and B. Uugankhuu.
E. Sodnompiljee will represent Mongolia in the men’s 107kg powerlifting category and has been designated as the flag bearer for the country during the opening ceremony. This will mark his third appearance at the Paralympic Games. Additionally, P. Enkhmanlai, an international master, will compete in the T-53 category of the 100-meter wheelchair race in para athletics, while Ts. Battulga will participate in the F-40 category.
For the first time, Mongolia will enter the realm of Paralympic swimming, with Kh. Nomuun set to make their debut in this discipline.
Mongolian archers include D. Selengee and B. Oyun-Erdene, both of whom are Asian World Cup bronze medalists and are slated to compete in para archery events. In taekwondo, G. Bolor-Erdene, also a state-honored athlete and participating in their second Paralympic Games, will join teammates U. Sorengjav. In para judo, T. Suvd-Erdene (48kg), L. Turuunaa (70kg), B. Battugs (90kg), and D. Ganbat (90kg) will all represent Mongolia.
Several members of the Mongolian team will depart for Paris on August 18.
