Nintendo’s highly-anticipated follow-up to the Switch, referred to as “Switch 2,” may not launch in early 2025 as many fans had hoped. Reports suggest that developers do not expect the Switch 2 to debut before the end of Nintendo’s current fiscal year, which concludes on March 31, 2025. This potentially positions April 1, 2025, as the earliest launch date for the new console.
According to industry insights, developers have been advised to prepare for a later release in the fiscal year. Enthusiasts anticipate an April or May release, indicating a timeline early next year rather than a later date.
It’s important to note that this situation shouldn’t be labeled a “delay,” as Nintendo has yet to announce an official release date for the Switch 2. In fact, the company has not disclosed any details about the console besides a promise of an announcement within the current fiscal year. For context, when the original Switch was unveiled in October 2016, it was launched just a few months later in March 2017. This suggests that a similar rapid announcement-to-release strategy could occur, meaning the first official word on Switch 2 might not emerge until later this year.
