WASHINGTON — President Trump is set to visit the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, where he will engage in a tour and participate in a board meeting.
This marks Trump’s first visit to the prestigious institution since implementing significant changes at the start of his second term.
The president made headlines when he dismissed the previous Kennedy Center board, expressing discontent with their vision for the arts and culture. He then installed loyal supporters and assumed the role of chairman.
Supporters of Trump have voiced concerns over the Kennedy Center’s programming, claiming it has taken a liberal and “woke” turn.
“We need to address the situation. It’s not ideal,” Trump commented to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday evening.
Established in 1971 along the Potomac River, the Kennedy Center has traditionally received bipartisan support.
However, Trump’s relationship with the venue has been complicated, as he notably skipped the annual honors ceremony each year during his first term, breaking long-standing tradition.
