Since its announcement, ECNETNews has noted that Rebellion’s forthcoming game, Atomfall, is drawing comparisons to the popular Fallout franchise. While both games share themes of post-apocalyptic survival and menacing robots, Rebellion emphasizes that Atomfall is a unique experience.
Art Director Ryan Greene highlighted that once players delve into Atomfall, they will realize its distinctiveness. “Our owner, Jason Kingsley, is a big Fallout fan. So there will naturally be some parallels related to survival in an apocalypse,” Greene explained. “But the reality is, while Fallout is a well-established franchise, we’re offering our own version with Atomfall.”
A significant aspect that sets Atomfall apart is its departure from the conventional main quest structure. Instead, players will navigate several interconnected narratives that converge on a central mystery. Greene also assured fans that they can complete the game using a non-lethal approach, stating he is “fairly certain” players can finish without taking any lives.
In an early preview of Atomfall, a reviewer remarked on its investigative gameplay, noting that it shares more similarities with the cult-classic Paradise Killer than with Fallout. The game’s design encourages players to explore a world filled with clues, leading them to piece together the overarching story without linear objectives.
Atomfall is set to release on March 27 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, and it will also be available on day one through Game Pass.
