ECNETNews reports that Google has expanded its AI-driven tools, Deep Research and Gems, within the Gemini app, now accessible to a wider range of Google Workspace customers as of March 13, 2025. These innovative features are available to users in various plans including Business Starter, Enterprise Starter, Education Fundamentals, Standard, Plus, Frontline Starter and Standard, Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Essentials Plus, and Nonprofits.
Enhanced AI Capabilities for More Users
Deep Research and Gems aim to optimize workflows and boost productivity through advanced AI capabilities. Gems act as customizable AI assistants, tailored to help users accomplish specific tasks and goals, minimizing repetitive input. Users can personalize these assistants across multiple topics and workflows and link them to Google Docs and Sheets via Google Drive for more relevant responses.
Pre-made Gems are offered for quick implementation, including options like “Sales pitch ideator” for developing engaging pitch materials, “Copy creator” for drafting marketing content, “Learning coach” for structured study sessions, and “Sentiment analyzer” for reviewing customer feedback and detecting trends.
Deep Research empowers users to generate in-depth research reports in real-time by efficiently browsing the web and analyzing data. This tool is particularly beneficial for businesses aiming to grasp industry insights and competitors, as well as educators and students aged 18 and older who need support with grant writing, lesson planning, and class projects.
Access and Limitations
While Deep Research and Gems are now expanded to a broader audience of Google Workspace customers, there are certain limitations. Deep Research usage is restricted to five reports per user within a 30-day timeframe for the newly included Google Workspace editions. Google advocates upgrading to a plan with access to Gemini Advanced for unrestricted usage.
At present, some Gems features only support a limited number of languages. Additionally, Deep Research and Gems are currently confined to the Gemini web app for business and education users aged 18 and older, with future plans to integrate the features into the Gemini mobile app.
Deployment and Availability
Deep Research and Gems are available automatically in the Gemini app, without the need for admin controls. However, enabling file uploads from Google Drive within Gems requires Workspace administrator permissions.
The full rollout of these enhanced features for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains has begun, with visibility expected within one to three days from March 13, 2025. This expansion significantly increases accessibility to Deep Research and Gems across numerous Google Workspace plans.
