ST GEORGES, Grenada – Grenada has officially welcomed six advanced automated Kiosk Machines, a significant contribution from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, supported by the European Union (EU) through the Regional Integration through Growth Harmonization and Technology (RIGHT) Programme. This initiative is part of the ongoing Border Management Enhancement Programme, designed to bolster border security and improve operational efficiency at key entry points across OECS Member States.
The introduction of these machines will enable immigration personnel to process arriving passengers more swiftly and securely, significantly reducing interaction times with immigration staff and minimizing wait times for travelers.
The Prime Minister of Grenada expressed appreciation for the EU and OECS’s support, highlighting how these automated kiosks will benefit both Grenadians and visitors throughout the region.
“I urge our citizens to embrace this technology, as it will undoubtedly simplify your travel experience. It allows for the redeployment of our immigration resources to more beneficial uses. As a tourism-driven economy, we aim to showcase our modern infrastructure, which enhances the experience for our guests,” he stated.
The recent handover followed the Third Meeting of the OECS Council of Ministers for Immigration, which addressed strategies to strengthen border security and support freedom of movement. During this meeting, the OECS Director General emphasized the significance of these investments.
“These enhancements not only beautify our ports of entry but also make them more traveler-friendly, greatly impacting border security and reducing passenger processing times,” he noted.
“At the OECS Commission, we advocate for the adoption of technologies that will transform our ports into globally competitive entities. Planned improvements and investments must reflect this vision,” he added.
A representative from the EU stressed the importance of reliable partnerships in the current global landscape.
“As we look into the future, we must continue to build connections not just economically but also culturally and socially. Through education exchanges and collaborative initiatives, we can strengthen our ties and ensure our shared values endure for generations to come,” he stated.
“The EU is dedicated to collaborating with Grenada and the OECS for the betterment of our communities. Together, we can forge a future filled with shared prosperity and opportunity,” he added.
The project manager of the 11th EDF RIGHT Programme reiterated the commitment to supporting other member states, stating:
“The EU-funded RIGHT programme is focused on harmonizing and improving the Border Management System within the OECS. The successful installation of these six Kiosk Machines in Grenada represents a pivotal advance in enhancing border security and operational efficiency across the region. Similar kiosk installations are also planned for Saint Lucia and Montserrat.”
