This week, rumors circulated about Apple removing International Women’s Day (March 8) from its calendar, but this information has been clarified.
A post from a sex toy brand raised eyebrows by suggesting that Apple had “quietly removed International Women’s Day from the calendar.” The post included instructions on how to manually add the date to Apple Calendar. International Women’s Day, first observed in 1911, is now celebrated worldwide, promoting women’s accomplishments and advocating for their rights throughout Women’s History Month.
As of now, the post has garnered over 41,000 likes, drawing attention shortly after Google Calendar’s controversial removal of Black History Month, Pride Month, and other significant observances. This decision has sparked public backlash, coinciding with an increasing anti-diversity movement aligned with the current political landscape.
Since taking office in January, significant changes have been observed in policies related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). There have been reports of tech giants following suit in diminishing DEI initiatives, creating a climate of concern among advocates for these important programs. However, Apple shareholders notably voted to retain its DEI policies amidst these changes.
In response to the recent rumors, Apple clarified that International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month were never listed on Apple Calendar to begin with, dispelling the notion that they had been removed. This has been confirmed by multiple sources.
