Coalition of Civil Society Organisations has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to maintain his focus and dedication in delivering essential legislative interventions for Nigerians.
The call came from the Stay Alert Human Right Awareness Initiative in a statement issued in Abuja. Executive Director Lary Onah expressed confidence in Akpabio’s leadership of the 10th Senate, describing it as impactful and notably gender-tolerant.
Onah dismissed unfounded allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio, which he has categorically denied. He emphasized that both Nigerians and lawmakers trust Akpabio’s capability to manage the complexities of governance.
The allegations, according to Onah, are distractions aimed at undermining democracy and the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He praised Akpabio for his professionalism during a recent altercation involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over a seating arrangement.
Onah stated, “Senator Natasha’s actions contravened Senate rules, and she should formally apologize and retract her sexual harassment petition against one of Nigeria’s most effective Senate presidents.”
He urged Akpabio to disregard what he termed “cheap blackmail” and focus on his duties for the benefit and prosperity of the nation. Additionally, he announced that the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations is organizing a solidarity march to support the Senate President and the country’s leadership.
